With the increased use of electronics in vehicles like high-end entrainment, navigation, automated headlights, remote lock etc, the need for battery maintained is ever increasing and vehicles owners are unaware of the importance for a charged 12v battery.
The workshops are increasingly seeing an increase in battery-related issues and need to have the right battery charger for demanding needs. Having said that, what do workshop owners need to look for when choosing a battery charger. Here are a few things to look out for.
Auto Mode – Optimal Charging
Chargers are increasingly becoming smarter and due to the complicated electronics, the need for smart chargers is unavoidable. The charger needs to be able to change the charging mode during different cycles of the charge. For example, it should charge at full force till the battery is at 80% and then taper off till it reaches 100%.
Powerful – Save Time
To keep the turnover of cars high in the workshop, the charger needs to have a high amperage. A charger with a maximum charging capacity of 20 Amps or high should do the trick. It will charge faster and hence will allow charging more vehicle batteries in a day.
On Board – Save Time and Labour
Choose a charger which will allow charging the 12v battery without having to remove the battery from the vehicle. This can save a lot of precious time as new generation vehicles have batteries are installed in hard to reach areas.
Maintenance Mode – Avoid claims
Running a workshop can lead to many human errors. One of them can be that the operator forgot to switch off the charger when leaving for the day.  This has resulted in over boiling of the battery acid and serious damage. A battery charger needs to switch to maintenance mode to avoid such issues.
Tuning Mode – Safe
In case you are involved in engine tuning, there is a risk of battery getting drained off during the tuning process. Choose a charger with supply mode which will ensure that the battery is charged during the tuning process and avoid a tuning failure midway. It is important to note that the rate of discharge should be lower than the rated current supply of the battery charger
Temperature – Time-Saving
In case your workshop is in an area which has extreme temperatures, a temperature compensator will help. This will ensure that the battery charger will charger with more power during cold conditions and vice versa for hot conditions. Ensuring proper battery charge
Hope you find this information useful in choosing the right charger.
