We are delighted to announce that the CTEK MXS 5.0 has once again been identified as the top-performing charger in a recent independent battery comparison test undertaken by GTÜ in Germany – the test compared 8 different chargers and involved 24 different test stages and was also featured in top-selling consumer automotive magazine Autobuild.
Quality of charge and charge retention, charger functionality, build quality, as well as cost formed the basis for the 24 different test stages. Each test stage involved chargers being scored points and the charger with the most points overall was awarded the coveted ‘Best in Test’ title.
Charge quality
Each charger was evaluated to ascertain the quality of charging and charge retention. GTÜ commended CTEK on it’s gentle approach to charging and its ability to safely achieve 100% charge. The ability to switch between charge and maintenance mode to keep the battery in optimum condition was considered an important part of the test – CTEK and Banner were considered leaders in this area.
Charger functionality
The CTEK MXS 5.0 was recognised for its versatility of charging and its ability to repair, revive, charge and condition the battery. These factors, together with its ability to charge AGM batteries along with its RECOND function, that revives deeply discharged batteries, ensured that the CTEK MXS 5.0 dominated this area.
Electrical tests
GTÜ undertook many electrical tests such a short-circuit resistance and reverse polarity protection. Whilst the majority of chargers scored well in this area, the CTEK MXS 5.0 topped this section along with GYS & AEG chargers.
Build quality
GTÜ subjected each charger to a variety of tests including a five-time drop test from 85 centimetres and charger resilience in cold conditions. The CTEK MXS 5.0 scored well in this area beating off the competition and sharing the top spot with Banner.
Price
Of course, the purchase price in the purchasing decision plays a role. GTÜ concluded on this basis that whilst the CTEK MXS 5.0 was the most expensive it was also the best!
The CTEK MXS 5.0 was the overall winner by a massive 35 points – we are absolutely delighted with this ‘Best in Test’ award.
